I look for pictures all the time for our documents, website, materials, etc.
It never fails that most of the pictures of "homeschooling" look like...well..."school" at home. Possibly, nothing could be further from the truth.
It's difficult for people to truly SEE and UNDERSTAND the home education directions parents want to take for their children. And some truth to that old Disney movie song from Beauty and the Beast,
"we don't like what we don't understand, in fact is scares us..."
So, let's have a fun contest.
Post a picture in the comments below of YOUR version of home education (aka "homeschooling").
Try to capture the ESSENCE of the freedoms and choices you make.
"What Homeschooling means to you."
Homeschooling is a unique and personalized approach to education that allows students to learn at their own pace in a comfortable environment. It fosters creativity, independence, and a deeper understanding of subjects that might not be fully explored in traditional classrooms. Families who choose homeschooling often appreciate the flexibility it provides, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests and strengths.
One of the challenges homeschoolers may face is finding expert guidance in specialized subjects. For example, science assignment helpĀ can be incredibly beneficial for students tackling complex topics like chemistry, physics, and biology. With professional assistance, homeschoolers can gain a deeper understanding of scientific concepts, conduct well-structured experiments, and complete their assignments with confidence. Just like homeschooling provides a customized learning experience, academic support services ensure that students receive the help they need to excel in their studies.
We love to roadschool, pairing adventurous learning with living book unit studies. We travel throughout the year following themes such as Westward Expansion & the Lewis and Clark Trail (2022), Colonial America & the Revolutionary War (2023), Wild West & Geology (2024), and currently we are studying Florida History (YAY!) and hope to take a Civil War tour this summer 2025. Having the freedom to educate our children beyond the "traditional" method allows our children delightful context for what they are learning, and allows them to consider "ideas", not just "information". We are having so much fun watching these "ideas" mature into wisdom and discernment for their lives and for their future callings!
We have a YouTube channel where our kids teach other kids about where we are traveling to and what they are learning (which helps them retain AND blesses others). I also share resources and tips to support homeschool parents who are interested in educating "outside the box". https://www.youtube.com/@LittleRoadSchoolhouse
Tell me you homeschool without telling me you homeschool.
Enhance imaginative play is homeschooling.
Homeschooling is friendship that doesnāt know the bounds of traditional āgradesā. It is finding people who appreciate you just as you are and who love you enough to help you grow.
Being homeschooled allowed my son to include an exchange program to the French Island of Reunion as part of his high school curriculum. He not only learned French, but he got to enjoy this remote location off the coast of Madagascar in the Indian ocean exploring all its geological phenomena such as this shield volcano, which coincidentally appeared as a textbook image in his current earth science textbook of his Dual Enrolled class at Santa Fe College. He was able to share with his peers that he had actually climbed that exact volcano!
For our family, homeschooling has been all about travel and experiences.
A few months ago, I came home to a full-blown hospital triage in the living roomācomplete with an operating room, recovery room, x-ray center, and even a patient schedule! The kids had turned the space into a bustling medical facility for their stuffed animals, each with minor "injuries." With a little help from their mom, they carefully treated, sewed up, and took great care of their furry patients.
This little "hospital" experience was a perfect example of what homeschooling is all aboutālearning through play, creativity, and hands-on experiences. It was amazing to see how they took initiative, collaborated, and applied problem-solving skills, all while having fun and practicing empathy.
