There is a category on reimbursements called "preapproval". I put the item there with screenshots of the item, placed the amount at $.01, and wrote in the comments that it was for preapproval.
I did this for a bike. There are some trikes on the scholarshop, and bikes are not explicitly approved or ineligible.
I don't actually need a new bike for another year or so for my son, but figured I would start the process now.
The purchasing guide is your best resource for that. Step Up has a pretty thorough one. AAA, I'm not sure what they have currently. But in December they will be meeting to finalize a standard guide for both. If it falls within an approved category in the guide, then it's an approved purchase.
There is such a thing as a pre-authorization, but Step Up told me that was to be used only for situations where a purchase does not clearly fit in one of the approved categories, and you would like to make a case for why you believe it is a valid educational expense for your child under one of the categories and should be approved. That process can take months just to get the pre-auth, and if you submit one for something that's already approved in the guide, they will automatically deny it since no pre-auth is necessary.
I am looking to do a hydroponic system. There are hydroponic kits on the the marketplace but they are very small and not as robust. If the item is in the market place that would be an approved item in the system so I should be good with purchasing a very large system and get reimbursement, Correct? What I would like to get-
