We have an update about extracurriculars at school districts for PEP students, FLVS, and Dual Enrollment, as of about an hour after today's Livestream!
Brenda spoke with the DOE and they advised for parents NOT to leave PEP/not to return to home education due to these issues, as of now. They said doing so would be premature, because they are actively working on a solution to the issue.
The DOE will be meeting with school districts this week to address the contract issues, and hopefully will have the necessary processes in place soon for PEP students to participate in classes and extracurricular activities at the schools.
They are also reaching out to FLVS to try to work out a resolution to the funding issues mentioned in today's Livestream, and are trying to work out any Dual Enrollment issues as well.
We don't have a timeline for when the details will be worked out, but the DOE is sure it will happen. Keep an eye on the forum here for future info on the outcomes of the meetings, etc. We will post updates as we have them!
Minor Update as of 9/15/2023: Brenda has heard confirmation that districts are actively working to get contracts in place so they can serve PEP students. So movement is happening! It just may take some time to work everything out.
Is there an update to this for the coming school year? I do not want to accept PEP if it means my daughter cannot take electives at our pasco county high school
Still waiting...
I am still waiting for some sort of follow up to this. I'm afraid I will losing funding going forward because this hasn't been worked out yet.
Crickets.... Anything, anything...?
Still waiting... Hoping for a phone call or an update.
What has happened with this issue? It's still unresolved for my kids and we've had no updates for over 3 weeks!
Any updates? We're still in limbo!
Are there any additional updates? The last one was 5 days ago and my kids are still in limbo. Funds have dropped but I don't know if I should use them or not until these issues are resolved.
Small update posted today! See above.
I am following this too -- my daughter is listed as "dual enrollment" at our public school, she was previously homeschooled under FL Unschoolers but also attends the gifted day/PE class at our local public school. We are still under FES-EO and waiting to be switched to PEP... am hoping the "dual enrollment" status doesn't keep that from happening. AND that she will still be able to attend gifted, as she loves it. Please update when you can!
My gd is taking her PERT at the beginning of October with the hope of registering for Spring DE classes (EFSC) in November. I just don't know what to do. I don't want to hold her back because PEP and DE aren't in line with each other. We haven't been funded yet either so that also causes an issue.
Anyone want want to chime in??
Hi Crystal, will you all be updating here when DOE addresses counties not being willing to allow previously homeschooled kids to still attend select electives at district High School once transitioned to PEP?
Btw, I am also running into issues with Dual Enrollment. The issues parallel those of the extracurricular/contracted courses at the district. They don't have a process in place and are putting the burden back on the parents to work it out some way or to revert back to being Home Educated student. The DOE needs to address this ASAP.
This is great news! What should I do with my kid sitting in limbo? I emailed the school I wanted to full-time withdraw her to enroll her in PEP, but still wanted to contract out part-time classes. They responded to my email to the Principal to hold off doing anything. So right now she is still considered full-time enrolled even though I indicated my desires. Should I physically go over to the school and write down I want her withdrawn, but keep sending her to the public school classes? I have similar issue with my son, I did sign something physically at the school to withdraw him, but they didn't change his status since he is still taking part-time classes there. I don't know where this leaves me with regard to Pep... How soon will this be resolved??
