Florida Education Policy - A family purchases a table for their home and some cabinets for their books and the government has swift and sweeping regulations to stop all purchases that they deem unnecessary.
I wish they were this swift with Insurance and Gun Policy. If I wasn’t on the completely opposite side of the State I would bring my family to these committee meetings to help. These email don’t seem to be making any difference.
PEP actually isn't the only scholarship being limited. EO is being limited as well. I know that doesn't affect as many of us in this forum because most of us here are homeschooling, but it does affect some. The response from the legislators right now seems to be out of fear that if they don't correct the perceived misuse of funds right now, it will just get exponentially worse as the scholarships expand. This may be an issue that takes us more than one year to fight---but that's always the case, honestly. There will never be a " We beat it. We won! It's over!" moment. There will always be a need for vigilance and taking a firm stand.
One of the underlying issues right now is they keep trying to compare the scholarship to what public schools get. That is never going to play out well, because homeschooling is not the same as public school. You can't really compare one to the other as the basis for decisions.
But this is why having a presence in the capitol on an ongoing basis is so important. Because we are fighting not only specific bills as they come up, but also the assumptions and misperceptions of what homeschooling is.
